James Ward-Prowse has backed Dani Osvaldo to channel his Latin passion into a scoring streak.
The Argentine-born Italy striker netted in the 3-2 home loss to Aston Villa on Wednesday... but then had to be restrained by the Saints' manager Mauricio Pochettino during a post-match melee.
“It is part of his character and that is the way he is,” said teammate Ward-Prowse. “In some ways it is bad, as obviously it does not look great.
“But fair play to him - he is passionate and wants to win. He has been working hard in training and you can see how desperate and passionate he is in the games to do well.
“I think he can go on a run now.
"That is what you want from all your players, so hopefully he can get on a roll and get a few goals.”
Osvaldo caused headlines in 2011 when he took a swing at Roma teammate Erik Lamela, now of Spurs, after a match.
"There was this disrespectful gesture from Osvaldo towards a teammate and, on request of the coach, the player will be punished," Roma general director Franco Baldini said at the time.
