Rotation hindered Madrid, says Ancelotti

The Blancos boss has admitted that his side's performance in the 2-0 win over Olimpic was not up to standard but hopes the fans can persuade Xabi Alonso to stay at the club

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti believes his side's performance in the 2-0 win over Olimpic de Xativa was hindered by the way he had to rotate.

The Spanish giants cruised into the last 16 of the Copa del Rey thanks to goals from Angel Di Maria and Asier Illarramendi with an XI which featured many of the club's youngsters.

"We started well, but after the second goal we did not have such a good attitude," he told reporters after the match.

"We went down in pace too. It's not easy to prepare for these games because the team changes a lot and they hadn't played many minutes.

"Young players need to work because playing for Madrid isn't easy. They need to take opportunities when they arrive."

Xabi Alonso got a rapturous reception from the Bernabeu faithful when he rose from the bench and Ancelotti hopes the backing of the fans will help the club in contract negotiations.

"I hope it will help him to decide. He's great." ------------ goal.com
