London: Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany could make his return from a two-month injury lay-off at West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday, manager Manuel Pellegrini revealed on Tuesday.

The Belgium centre-back has missed City`s last 10 games due to a thigh problem, but he has been training fully for a week and will be included in the squad that travels to The Hawthorns.

"Kompany is in the squad list and he is travelling with the team," Pellegrini said.

Despite their thrilling home form, which has seen them win all seven of their Premier League games at the Etihad Stadium to date, City have looked vulnerable on the road in Kompany`s absence.

The 2012 champions have lost at both Chelsea and Sunderland in recent weeks, and Pellegrini hopes that Kompany`s comeback will help City avoid similar setbacks over the coming months.

"I think Vincent is a very important player. He is a very good defender and of course we need him," said the Chilean, whose side beat Swansea City 3-0 on Sunday.

"On the other side, in the last five (domestic) games just Sunderland have scored one goal (against us). In all the others we have had clean sheets.

"So the other defenders can do it as well, but Vincent is always an important player."

Kompany`s return is timely, with fellow centre-back Matija Nastasic currently sidelined by a calf problem.

Midfielder David Silva and forward Stevan Jovetic will also miss the trip to West Brom due to injury. AFP ------------------ ZEENEWS.com
