Bonus Robbie Savage: Why Luis Suarez's fabulous Liverpool form is not all good news for Brendan Rodgers
Bonus Robbie Savage: Why Luis Suarez's fabulous Liverpool form is not all good news for Brendan Rodgers
After 13 goals in 10 games, the transfer feeding frenzy is bound to resume in January PLUS Spurs, predictions and more
In the shop window: Suarez's form will not have gone unnoticed across Europe
Dennis Bergkamp scored the best hat-trick I’ve ever seen, for Arsenal at Leicester.
I
had a great view of it. I was playing for Leicester, chasing shadows
for 90 minutes, although somehow we managed to scramble a 3-3 draw.
At Anfield on Wednesday, Luis Suarez produced the best four-goal performance you’re ever likely to witness. That’s 11 goals in his last four games against Norwich.
But I fear Suarez’s hot streak could prove to be a double-edged sword for Liverpool.
While
his goals are keeping them in contention for a top-four finish, if not
the title, his form is bound to lead to more transfer-window
speculation.
Manager Brendan Rodgers and owner John W Henry did a great job to keep Suarez at Liverpool last summer.
But after 13 goals in 10 games, the feeding frenzy is bound to start again in January.
And
if Liverpool cannot give him Champions League football next season as a
bare minimum, it’s only a matter of time before the money will talk.
Spurs' interest rate rising
Looking on the bright side: AVB's Spurs are better, but still not quite there
Never put all your eggs in one basket, as the old saying goes.
Sam Allardyce can have no complaints about being under pressure at West Ham
after pushing the boat out to sign Andy Carroll in the summer and, six
months later, we are still waiting for him to kick a ball this season.
The Hammers were very poor this week in defeat at Crystal Palace, where their lack of attacking options was laid bare for all to see.
I
predicted, back in July, that West Ham would finish above Everton, but
now I fear they will be in massive trouble unless they buy at least two
strikers in January.
Give an Ince they take a mile
Paul Ince was treated harshly by Blackburn when he was trying to establish himself as a Premier League manager.
He was also a super player and I applaud him for climbing back up the managerial ladder with Blackpool.
But
no sooner had he returned to the dug-out after a five-match ban for
losing his rag with officials than Blackpool had THREE players
red-carded at Yeovil.
Discipline stems from the boss. He sets the standards.
Ince must have found it difficult to hammer them when he’d set such a bad example.
Robbie's Story of the Week
Among the 40th birthday tributes to Ryan Giggs
was this shocking picture of him lining up alongside a scrawny kid with
a dreadful haircut before an FA Youth Cup tie at Manchester United.
Mum and Dad, what were you thinking of when you let me out of the house with a barnet like that?
I’ve got to admit: What an ugly kid I was.
Do you recognise this man?
Thank goodness someone invented hair dye! .
