West Brom's Saido Berahino is a transfer target for French heavyweights Monaco
Baggies' claims that agreement is close on a new contract
for young striker also being eyed by Arsenal and Everton are wide of the
mark
Big-spending French club Monaco are keen on West Brom starlet Saido Berahino.
The young striker, heavily tipped to make it into Roy Hodgson’s next England squad yet currently on just £850 a week at the Baggies, netted in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
That was his sixth goal in nine appearances in his debut season - the highlight of which was West Brom's winner away to champions Manchester United.
There have been claims from the club that Berahino is close to signing a lucrative new deal, but that is not the case after they offered him £7,000-a-week.
Baggies boss Steve Clarke is keen to get a new contract sorted for the England Under-21 star, who will have just a season left on his current deal come next summer.
Arsenal and Everton are said to be among the other clubs impressed by his progress.
