Scolari: We need to beat Chile

The 65-year-old has stressed the importance of his team’s friendly with their fellow South Americans as they continue their preparations for the 2014 World Cup
Brazil coach Luis Felipe Scolari is hoping his team can close out the year with a win over Chile.

The Selecao won the first match of their global tour 5-0 when they faced Honduras in Miami on Saturday, and will look to win their sixth match in a row when they take on Jorge Sampaoli’s men in Toronto on Tuesday.

Scolari has the team firing on all cylinders, and he wants to continue their winning ways in their last game of 2013.

“I didn’t expect the players to be as comfortable as they are right now,” he told reporters. “Today, I can say the team is complete.

“2013 is met with a positive evaluation from this group. But we have to beat Chile, one of the best opponents to play against this season, for it to end even better.

“We still have December, January, February before our next match.

“If we can close this one out with a win, we will have even more tranquility to think about these remaining months [before the WC].”

After Tuesday’s match, the focus switches to hosting next summer’s World Cup, as Brazil will look to improve on a quarter-final loss to the Netherlands in 2010.

“Now, as the year ends, we are looking forward to the World Cup. You can say Santa is coming late this time around, because we wished we could play right now.

“It was a profitable year. We started with Russia, England, France and Italy. Games that we used to build on our team strategy, and later sharpened during the Confederations Cup.” --------------- goal.com
