Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed that his dream job would be that of
Liverpool manager, but that he knows he will never get the opportunity.
The 65-year-old Swede, currently working in China as manager of Guangzhou R&F, was speaking on TalkSPORT on Tuesday morning and revealed himself to be a boyhood Liverpool fan.
Additionally, he also spoke of his hopes that Brendan Rodgers' side, currently sitting second in the Premier League table, could challenge for the title.
“In the past, it was always a dream to manage Liverpool but that will not happen," said Eriksson, who has won league titles in Sweden, Portugal and Italy during his managerial career.
“I’ve always been a Liverpool fan. My father was a Liverpool fan so it’s in the family.
"Liverpool have been doing rather well this season, better than for many years, and I hope they can compete this year in the Premier League because they haven’t done that for a long time.”
Eriksson was in charge of England for five years (2001-06) and took the country on something of a rollercoaster ride, encompassing that 5-1 win in Germany and three successive quarter-finals at major international tournaments - the nation's best run since the 1966 World Cup win.
However, the Swede was unable to bring a major international trophy to his adopted home, despite having the so-called Golden Generation at his disposal.
As such, Eriksson believes that he and the Three Lions have unfinished business together.
“There is unfinished business, but I will never have the England job again so I don’t really think about it,” he added.
“But it’s the biggest football job you can have, a fantastic job. You are proud and happy to have it every day.
"It’s probably the biggest job in the world.”
