Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to finally spend big in the transfer market this summer, according to former vice-chairman David Dein.
The Gunners boss has been heavily criticised for refusing to spend in the past, despite the club being in a strong financial position.
However, a failure to win any silverware over the last eight years seems to have caused a re-think with Dein claiming the Frenchman realises he needs to invest heavily in his squad.
Speaking to told 5Live Breakfast, Dein said: “The fact is he has to strengthen the team and I know he will do that.
“He is one of the best managers in the world, he’s been coaching for 30 years and knows what he is doing.
“He knows what he wants and it’s just a question of identifying the right talent.”
Arsenal have not won a trophy since defeating Manchester United in then 2005 FA Cup and have seen themselves overtaken by the likes of big spending Manchester City and Chelsea in recent times.

Supporters have started to turn on their previously untouchable manager - with Arsenal not guaranteed Champions League qualification this season.
However, Dein insists Wenger is still the man to lead Arsenal - having secured Champions League football for 17 consecutive years at the club.
“It’s a long, hard season and I am a great supporter of Arsene.
“He has done a phenomenal job and continues to do so year-on-year.
“He has the fire in his belly. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be there.”
“Arsene’s on course for next season’s Champions League. But they have fallen 20-odd points behind United, which is not good enough.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal have been linked with a summer move for Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Goetze.
