Liverpool's Luis Suarez will give 100 per cent, he know no other way predicts boss Rodgers
Bite-ban striker will return against arch-rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford and is backed to repay his debt to Reds' fans
Luis Suarez knows he owes Liverpool’s fans as he prepares to make his long-awaited return at Old Trafford this week.
Brendan Rodgers has spoken to Suarez and says the striker understands he must repay supporters because of his antics in the summer, which saw linked with a move from Anfield.
Suarez - set to play in Wednesday's mouthwatering League Cup tie at Manchester United - dismayed Kopites who stood by him when he received his 10-match ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic.
Rodgers insists the Uruguay striker is now totally committed to Liverpool after the summer transfer saga and backs him to prove it on the pitch.
When asked whether Suarez knows he owes the Reds, Rodgers said: “I’m sure he does. I’m sure he does.
“You’ll find out once he gets that strip on - he’ll work his socks off. He’s received nothing but affection and love from the supporters.
“They deserve no less than 100 per cent and knowing Luis, that’s what he’ll give them.
“I think he just can’t wait to get playing again. There’s a real determination in him now.
“Obviously there was a lot going on over the course of the summer, but he’s trained really hard, really well, and his entrance to come back into the squad now is perfect timing really.”
Rodgers has been delighted by Suarez's attitude in training.
He says the South American has worked tirelessly to ensure he is ready to step straight back in, and has no doubts he will give his all for the Liverpool cause.
“Yes, I do,” said the Northern Irishman. “Absolutely. I think that’s the one thing about Luis Suarez, because of the type of character he is - when he plays football, he can’t play it any other way.
“He knows what the club’s stance was and he stayed. We stayed strong in our belief that we wanted to hang on to him.
“The minute that passed, he’s been working tirelessly. Knowing him, that’s the type of player he is.
“Of course, it was difficult for everyone in the summer, but that’s behind us now.
“I’ve got to say, how he’s prepared himself over these last couple of weeks, he’s been fantastic.”
