against the world champions
Japan confirmed their supremacy over the Super
Falcons as they silenced them 2-0 in the second of the two-game
friendly series played at Fukuda Denshi Arena in Chiba on Thursday. The Asian ladies were helped by goals from Mizuho Sakaguchi and a penalty from Aya Miyama.
Despite gaining most of the ball possession, Japan failed to get the curtain raiser as they failed to create clear cut chances. The attack-minded Falcons did not relent either as they challenged Sasaki Norio's ladies for every ball.
The reigning world champions however got their first goal off the boots of Miyama who coolly converted her spot kick in the 21st minute after a she was fouled by a Nigeria defender.
Seven minutes later, Sakaguchi profited from poor defending by the Nigerian ladies to slot in the second goal.
On resumption of the second half, the Falcons tried to restore some pride but could not derail the Japanese defence.
With this result, Japan win 4-0 on aggregate after beating the former African champions 2-0 in the match played before a crowd of 15,206 at the Track and Field Stadium in Nagasaki on Sunday courtesy of goals from Ogimi Yuki and Kawasumi Nahomi. -------------------- goal.com
