Arsene Wenger reckons Mesut Ozil can get even better - and help Arsenal to be a genuine title challenge. Record signing Ozil
provided two more assists and played a part in Arsenal’s other goal as
Wenger’s men stormed back to the top of the Premier League table.
It
leaves Wenger convinced that they can maintain their push for the
Premier League while he also believes there is more to come from Ozil
when he adapts to the pace of the English game.
Wenger said: “He gave a lift to everyone at the club. He will be the point of our team work, team play.
“He
will get better when he fully integrates into the pace of the game. It
is not just him, the whole team. We look solid. My job here is to make
everyone happy, hopefully they are happy at the moment. Room for improvement: Arsene Wenger says Arsenal will keep striving for better
Ian Walton
“When you play against Stoke you don’t expect to score from three set-pieces, it shows how important [Ozil’s] delivery is.
“He’s
a player, when you look at his numbers, the assists are not a coincidence, they are a reality of his game. He is a great player.
“Football
is football, good players make good passes, bad players make bad passes.
Same in England. He has good pace as well, he plays a lot focusing on
passing but he can create.
“We
are in position (at the top) where we can focus on improvement in a
stable environment. Mathematically everyone is together in the table.
“But
it pleases me that we showed another aspect, we can dig deep and fight
when we are under pressure. The third goal kept the result. It’s been a
positive, good week for us. We won in Marseille, won against Sunderland
and won today.”

Wenger’s plans were altered by Theo Walcott aggravating a pelvic muscle in the warm-up which led to Serge Gnabry being promoted to the starting line-up.
There was also a place on the bench for forgotten striker Nicklas
Bendtner and Wenger said he could start at West Brom in the Capital One
Cup.
Wenger
said: “Theo’s injury is a bit mysterious. It’s something he had before
Marseille but we played him and then he felt it before the game today. I
hope it will be a matter of days but we don’t know how long it will be.
“I
should have rested Jack Wilshere today, but he played five in a row and
was exhausted so that’s why I took him off. Certainly won't play jack on
Wednesday, will of course rotate team.
“I have not decided yet on whether Bendtner will play at West Brom. But he could do, yes.”
