Spurs have made a fresh bid of £22million plus add-ons for Roberto Soldado - and are targeting Lyon forward Lisandro Lopez next.
White
Hart Lane Technical Director Franco Baldini has been sent to Spain to
hold face-to-face talks over the offer - on top of which Spurs will pay
£3.5million in add-ons - for Valencia striker Soldado.
Amadeo
Salvo, president of the Spanish club, said: "We have asked for £26m.
What they've offered isn't too far off. Tomorrow we'll continue
negotiations with [Tottenham].
"The two clubs have spoken and Valencia made it clear that they wanted 30 milllion euros.
"Tottenham's
mission is to get the player as cheaply as possible, while ours is to
receive 30 million. There's not much room for manouevre. For a deal to
take place two things have to happen: the player has to want to go and
they need to pay what Valencia demand. The board will study the
situation."
Tottenham moved quickly yesterday because they feared
they could lose out to Liverpool in the race for the Spain international
who is being eyed at Anfield as a possible replacement for Luis Suarez. Wanted: Baldini has gone to Spain to win the race for Roberto Soldado

Salvo had also warned Spurs that he wants a deal done by
August 3 for tax purposes - and because he wants replacements in good
time.
He said: "The message we have to give is that we need
tranquillity. If Soldado leaves in the near future, near to the end of
the transfer window, we will have to find a replacement."
Lopez, meanwhile, was the subject of a failed Deadline Day bid by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy back in January.
The
30-year-old forward, who can also play on the wings, has just a year
left on his contract and has made it clear to his club he intends to
move on this summer. Spurs are set to go back in before the deadline with Lyon aware that they need to sell now or lose Lopez for nothing in 12 months.
