The Calm One: Jose Mourinho isn't panicking about Rooney bid

Jose Mourinho last night insisted he is “calm” about Chelsea’s pursuit of Wayne Rooney, writes Martin Lipton in Jakarta.
The Blues are privately confident they
will land Rooney before deadline day even though Manchester United have
pledged the England ace is not for sale after rejecting an opening £20million offer.
But after watching his side finish the Asian leg of their pre-season campaign with
a one-sided romp, Mourinho maintained there is no reason for Chelsea to
panic over their prime target.
Chelsea
are playing a waiting game before tabling a second bid
which will be around £24m and speaking directly about Rooney for the
first time in a week, Mourinho said: “There is no transfer movement, no.
“At this moment we have done what you know, made that bid which was public and official.
“After that nothing else. But we are calm, as we told you that we are calm, because we are happy with what we have.”
Mourinho’s mood was not harmed by his side’s comprehensive destruction of lightweight opponents. Chelsea are confident they will get their man
Alex Livesey
Ramires
and substitute Romelu Lukaku both scored twice, with an Eden Hazard
penalty followed by further goals from Demba Ba, John Terry and trialist
Bertrand Traore, although Tomas Kalas put through his own net.
Terry’s
form and fitness have been a boost for Mourinho - who reverted to the
4-3-3 of his first Chelsea spell - after the skipper was left a bit-part
player last term under Rafa Benitez.
“John
played well and trained very well,” said Mourinho. “He has not missed
one minute of any training session. That is very important because he is
a very important player for us.
“He
has trained very hard for 15 days, most days with two sessions, more
than three hours of training a day and then played well. I am very happy
with him.”
The Blues boss insisted Fernando Torres - who like the rest of Chelsea’s Confederations
Cup players will join the squad on Monday ahead of their flight to the USA had no need to be “worried” about Lukaku’s form.
“Fernando
should be happy because we have competition in the team. That is good
for everybody,” he added. “Fernando will be pleased because at one stage
he was basically the only striker and now we have three.”
Mourinho
was also happy the Premier League have granted Chelsea’s request that
their home game against Aston Villa - scheduled for the weekend they
face Bayern Munich in the UEFA SuperCup - has been brought forward 10
days. Romelu Lukaku has been in the goals during Chelsea's pre-season tour

Chelsea now have the chance to jump out of the blocks ahead of their
August 26 trip to Old Trafford and while Villa were reluctant to move
the game forward Mourinho said: “I think it is fair.
“It
would not have been fair to play this game one month or two months
later. It was supposed to be our third game so it is logical to play it
at the start of the season.
“For
me it is not about us getting a head-start. We have to play against
everybody home and away and I am never that bothered about the fixtures.
I am not worried about that. We will try to win against Hull and then
against Villa and then take things match by match.”
