Paolo Di Canio has described his spending spree at Sunderland as a “revolution".
The
Wearside chief has predicted star buy Emanuele Giaccherini, signed for £7million from Juventus, will be “one of the best” players in the league
.
Di
Canio is in Hong Kong for a pre-season tournament with an entire new team of signings
, having shaken up the squad
which narrowly escaped relegation.
Club skipper Lee
Cattermole will become the latest victim of the changes after having his
squad number changed, suggesting he is low down on Di Canio’s plans.
Di
Canio said: “We have made a revolution. I’m sure Giaccherini will
impress everybody. There are no doubts about his technical quality.
English football is one of the more difficult leagues in the world,

“You have to change your mentality completely. But I was sure about
his attitude and desire to come to England. When you sign a foreign
player I want to know
if he loves English football and if he has a desire to understand
English football and integrate himself in English life.
“He’s
a fantastic lad and will be one of the best players in this league. He’s
a very humble guy but he is one of the best players in one of the best
national teams in the world. He’s a still a bit behind and he’s a bit
heavy in his legs right now but in the future he will be a crucial
player.”
A deal to sign full
back Gino Peruzzi from Velez Sarsfield has fallen through because a knee problem showed up during his medical.
