Arsene Wenger last night tabled a stunning and cheeky £40,000,001 bid for Luis Suarez.
The extra quid triggers a clause in the Liverpool hitman’s contract meaning the Merseyside club must inform him of Arsenal’s offer.
Liverpool last night rejected the approach – but Gunners striker Lukas Podolski urged Wenger to seal the deal.
The
German said: “Of course Suarez is a big player. He’s scored a lot of
goals so he’s a big striker. I’m happy when players come in. I want to
play with the best players in the world.
“There is competition at every big club, particularly at a club of the size of Arsenal.”Wenger now expects Suarez to tell Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers that he wants to speak to Arsenal and move to play in the Champions League.

Uruguay ace Suarez, 26, will find Wenger prepared to shatter the Emirates wage structure with a five-year, £150,000-a-week contract.Despite the £40m-plus offer, Liverpool would find it more palatable to sell – if their hands are forced – to Real Madrid.
So far Real have only valued Suarez at £25m, but the Spanish giants have agreed to sell Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli for £30m.
And Suarez’s advisors have been asked to stall any negotiations until the Bernabeu outfit can make their own formal approach to Liverpool.
