Gareth Bale will not 'do a Luka Modric' to force his way out of Tottenham.
The news comes as a big boost to Spurs ahead of today's vital north London derby against Arsenal.
And Tottenham will offer Bale up to £160,000-a-week to try to keep the Welshman if the club qualifies for the Champions League.
Real Madrid are leading a chase of Europe's top clubs for £60million-rated Bale, having signed Modric from Spurs last August.
Modric was fined for going on strike and refusing to join Tottenham's US Tour last year in a bid to seal his dream move to the Bernabeu.
The midfielder eventually got his way, joining Real for £33m, but a close friend of 23-year-old Bale said: “Gareth won't be doing a Luka Modric.
“He's not that kind of lad. If there is a decision he has to make, then he'll make it but he's not going to kick up a fuss.
“Of course, Gareth is well aware there is a lot of interest in him but he will leave it down to Tottenham and any other clubs to sort out.
“Tottenham have been very good to Gareth and he won't just forget that. It's impossible to predict what will happen.”
Chairman Daniel Levy will fight to try to keep Bale, but club insiders accept that would be almost impossible if they miss out on a Champions League place.
Bale only signed a new four-year contract last summer, but will be guaranteed another huge pay rise if Spurs secure a top-four spot and he agrees to stay at White Hart Lane for at least one more season.
Levy is famously strict with his Spurs wage bill, but made an exception for Bale last year and will do so again if it means holding on to him.
Today's game will be key to Tottenham's Champions League hopes, as they can stretch their lead over fifth-placed Arsenal to seven points.
While Spurs are desperate to keep Bale, the club are planning to dump former Gunners Emmanuel Adebayor and William Gallas.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas wants to cut his central defensive options down to four, which means 35-year-old Gallas will not be offered a new contract and will be allowed to leave White Hart Lane.
Togo international Adebayor has not impressed this season and upset club staff with his off-on decision to play in the African Cup of Nations and his late arrival back from the tournament. --- Mirror Football
