Peter Odemwingie: No way back for him at Albion

 

 

FanZone's West Brom blogger Alistair Jones believes there is no way back for striker Peter Odemwingie following his latest rant on Twitter.

So, it seems Peter Odemwingie believes in the proverb 'if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.'
Just when the dust had settled from the ridiculous scenes on deadline day, and in fact had me sort of defending him because of his actions post-January (i.e. sacking his agents, publicly apologising etc) he goes and has another Twitter rant.
There can be no way back now, crossing the line of slagging his team-mates off, saying if one was on £40k he should be on £80k. Very poor conduct from a professional.
I do have a certain amount of sympathy on the footballing side, however.
Against Stoke City, Graham Dorrans was ruled out through injury. Most Albion fans expected Peter to start, and most would have agreed this was the correct option.Instead Steve Clarke went with Jerome Thomas, who wasn't even on the bench in the two previous games.
If I was Peter I'd have felt aggrieved too - but this doesn't mean that he then has to tweet his dignity and professionalism away.
I read an article the previous week from Clarke hinting there may well be a future even for Peter at Albion after the summer window. It's like he thought "Crikey, if that's what the boss thinks I better start playing up again!!"
The time has now come to get rid.
I admire Jeremy Peace's stance in January. As he was quoted it eventually became a point of principle rather than profit.
This means that this summer will be critical to the progression of West Bromwich Albion.
With Romelu Lukaku, who at 19 and on loan has shown more commitment and respect to our club than a certain 31-year-old international footballer, looking less likely to return for another year and Marc Antoine-Fortune out of contract and unlikely to be retained, we are short on firepower.
Markus Rosenberg just hasn't adapted to the top tier, leaving us with only Shane Long as a central striker. With the market the way it is, a forward's value is far greater than any other position, and with the influx of money from the new TV deal flooding the Premier League, it is imperative that Peace loosens the purse strings more than ever before.
Just a final thought on Peter. Thanks for the memories, especially the hat-trick at Molineux, but I believe in time he will look back on this chapter of his life with regret in the way he acted.
I understand his desire to leave, that is his perogative, but surely there are better ways to go about getting what he wants.
