Simeone: Teams treating Atletico like Barcelona

The Argentine says his side will have to have an alternative plan of action as sides look to frustrate los Colchoneros at the Vicente Calderon
Diego Simeone believes teams are approaching games against Atletico Madrid the same way they would against Barcelona.

The Argentine saw his side drop points at home for only the second time this season as they drew 1-1 with Sevilla on Sunday, a result that saw the capital club miss the chance to go top.

But Simeone says los Colchoneros must now learn to deal with clubs coming to the Vicente Calderon Stadium and shutting up shop as teams wisen up to Atleti’s capability.

“It was the match we imagined,” the 43-year-old told the media after the game.

“A match that was going to be settled by [small] details and that was the case. A tight match and possibly even an ugly one, with a lot of competition and two teams waiting for the other to make a mistake. We took a point which helps us to be in a privileged place."

“A point is a point. If you can’t take three points, you have to take one it should be valued.

“Opponents are starting to play us differently and Sevilla changed their formation today. [Carlos] Bacca and [Ivan] Rakitic slowed down our midfielders. They played against us like we did against Barcelona.”

Atleti were on course for victory until Juanfran gave away a late penalty but Simeone had no qualms with referee Hernandez Hernandez’s decision to penalise his player for tugging the shirt of Carlos Bacca.

"For me, it was a penalty,” he admitted.

“When the referee has the courage to go across the whole field to give a penalty, it seems right. I saw a penalty and I am satisfied because I think it was." ----------------- goal.com
