Nemanja Vidic says Manchester United haven't had the hairdryer from David Moyes... yet
“The players are training well, and as long as it’s like
that he won’t have any reason to do it. Hopefully it will stay like
that," says United skipper
Keeping his cool: Moyes is yet to blow his top at United
Nemanja Vidic says Manchester United’s players are waiting to receive the ‘hairdryer’ treatment from new boss David Moyes.
Former United
boss Sir Alex Ferguson was renowned for his fiery ‘hairdryer’ temper,
bawling out his players when he felt they had let their standards slip.
Although
United have dropped five points from their first three games under
Moyes, he has yet to let rip in the dressing-room, according to Vidic.
Despite
United losing 1-0 at arch rivals Liverpool prior to the international
break, Moyes backed his players for the way they performed at Anfield.
And
United skipper Vidic praised the impact of Moyes and his coaching staff
since the former Everton boss officially took over from Ferguson on
July 1.
Asked if Moyes had his own version of Ferguson’s
‘hairdryer’ treatment, Vidic said: “No. Until now he didn’t really have
any need to, like you say, hairdryer and shout at players, because at
the moment everything is going smooth.
“The players are training
well, and as long as it’s like that he won’t have any reason to do it.
Hopefully it will stay like that.
“The training is different - different kind of routines - which is normal when the new manager comes.
“Obviously he’s brought his staff as well, who have worked with us for two months, and we’ve got to know each other more.
“It’s all positive - I think we are in good shape.”
Although
Ferguson was in charge for 26 years, Vidic claimed Moyes had not tried
to implement wholesale change since taking charge of United. Ferguson's hairdryer treatment was the stuff of legend
“It’s not big, big changes - we have similar players - but he’s trying to teach the players different things.
“There are lots of positives, and now it’s the time to show them on the pitch.”
Vidic
acknowledged the unrivalled success United enjoyed in three decades
under Ferguson but said the time had come to move on to a new era.
“You
know what, we had success with [Sir Alex] Ferguson,” Vidic told Talk
Sport. “It was a pleasure and I’m glad I worked with him.
“But you know something new always comes - it’s new challenges, new training, new preparations.
“I had a great time with Sir Alex and we had so much success. I will always remember it as a good time.
“I saw him at Wimbledon - accidentally we had seats next to each other.
“We were supporting different players [Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic] and it was fun, it was nice to see him there.
“I was not his player at the time - he looked relaxed and he was with his family.”
“He’s
not the kind of person who will change. He is straightforward - Moyes
has a similarity with Sir Alex, he’s straightforward as well.”
United open their first Champions league campaign under Moyes with next Tuesday’s visit of Bayer Leverkusen to Old Trafford.
Despite Moyes never having managed in the competition proper, Vidic does not feel that will count against United in Europe.
“I think football is the same everywhere,” said Vidic. “He has been the manager of Everton for more than ten years.
“He’s
facing teams like Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Mancheter United
every year, and that means he has the experience to play against top
teams.
“Obviously he has, I believe, better quality players now at
Manchester United - and I believe he has enough experience to drive us
on.”
