Marouane Fellaini has vowed to prove himself worthy of his £27.5million fee following his move to Manchester United.
United were forced to pay £4m above the expired release clause of £23.5m in Fellaini’s Everton contract after clinching his signing on transfer deadline day.
Fellaini, 25, became the first signing of new United boss David Moyes, who managed him at Everton, and said he was relishing the chance to be reunited with his former manager.
“I’m thrilled to sign for Manchester United,” said Fellaini. “I’ve known the manager for many years now and I have a lot of respect for his way of working.
“When I was given the opportunity to work with him again, I jumped at the chance.
“I had a fantastic time at Everton and I’d like to thank all the fans and staff there for everything they have done for me.
“But being a Manchester United player is something that every player dreams of and I believe that I can make a real contribution to the team’s efforts to win trophies in the future.
“I’m very, very happy. It’s a big moment for me. I waited for a long time, I’ve worked hard for this and I’m very happy to join this big club, this great club. I hope to do everything for this club.
“It’s the biggest club in the world so of course I wanted to join this club. I tried everything to join the club. It’s been difficult, a very long day. I waited to the end. I know the situation, but this day has been very long.
“It [Old Trafford] is a big stadium, a big club. I hope I can score a lot of goals for Manchester United.
“When I was young it was a dream to play for Manchester United. Now I’m here so I’ll try to give my best to the club. I want to win trophies. That’s the most important thing.”

United manager Moyes said Fellaini was a player he was desperate to land and claimed his addition was a major coup, hailing him as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders.
“I’ve worked with Marouane for five years and I’m delighted he’s decided to join Manchester United,” said Moyes.
“He’s a player with great ability and strength and I think he’ll make a real difference to our squad.
“He’s a very good footballer and a good technician. He has the ability to score goals and play in several different positions in the midfield.
“I think that’s an area where everybody felt we could do with strengthening.
“He’ll give us different options in different games in terms of where we can use him. He’s still young and improving.
“For me, he’s been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League over the last few seasons.
“If he can join a club like Manchester United and continue to improve hopefully we’ll have a real good player on our hands.”
Asked if he felt Fellaini would thrive at United, Moyes said: “Yeah, I think everybody has to be given the chance to do that. I’m confident he can.
“I think he’s a talented boy. He has a good mentality, he’s a good professional. We’re looking forward to seeing how he does.
“He helped me over the years in different ways. He can play higher up, if we need it, behind the striker or as a defensive or holding midfielder.
“In any position in the middle of the field he’s comfortable.
“Because of that I think it’s definitely a position where people have said we’ve been short of numbers, with the likes of Paul Scholes [retiring] and Darren Fletcher not ready to come back just now. I felt we needed to strengthen there and I’m glad we got him.
“I do know he’s not someone you want to play against because you have to make contingency plans for him. He has lots of attributes that other people don’t have.
“And there are other things he won’t have that we’ll have to help him with. But with the qualities he’s got, I’m sure he’ll be a good player for Manchester United.”
Fellaini joined Everton in 2008 and has made 173 appearances for them, scoring 32 goals. He has 42 caps for Belgium and seven goals.
