They're the lifeblood of the game, the grassroots teams where the glitz and glamour of the Premier League is a distant daydream. This Saturday, to celebrate Non-League Day, Arsenal will give a helping hand to Conference side Boreham Wood FC.
No, they're not loaning them Nicklas Bendtner. The Gunners will help the Conference South side with their travel arrangements for their match against Weston Super Mare this weekend and give the club a taster of what it's like to travel in Premier League style.
Boreham Wood FC are managed by former Arsenal winger Ian Allinson, the club also hosts the successful Arsenal Ladies and Arsenal academy sides.
Arsenal will lend the club their luxury coach for the 148 mile journey to the West Country.
Arsenal club secretary David Miles said: “We have enjoyed a very strong relationship with Boreham Wood FC over the years and are delighted to have the opportunity to help the team with their travel on Non-League Day again this year. We wish Ian Allinson and his players all the best for the match.”
The Gunners do not have a fixture this weekend due to the international fixtures taking place on Friday evening, and with Non-League Day as a celebration of the semi-professional and amateur game, football fans are being encouraged to go out and watch their local non-league sides.
