Arsene Wenger is eyeing Lyon’s £15m-rated captain Maxime Gonalons as a solution to his midfield problems.
Wenger
has sent scouts to watch the French international on several occasions this season and Arsenal are stepping up their interest.
Gonalons,
24, is under contract until 2016 but Lyon are likely to be willing to sell if any club matches their £15m asking price. Gunners
boss Wenger is desperate for a holding midfielder and his scouts have
been scouring Europe and Gonalons is now on that shortlist.
They have also watched Toulouse’s Etienne Capoue and West Ham’s Mohamed Diame was on their radar in January. Buy Jove: Jovetic tops Wenger's wishlist this summer

But
Gonalons will now be under even greater scrutiny as Arsenal believe he
could be the answer - but they must see if he fits the bill.
Arsenal have been without a traditional holding player and have used Mikel Arteta to fill the void this season.
They also want a striker - Stevan Jovetic tops their wish list
- and a centre half as well as a keeper.
Fiorentina’s
Jovetic is rated in the £20m class, German keeper Rene Adler is on their shortlist
and Arsenal also plan to watch Swansea defender Ashley Williams again this week. Williams is a long term Arsenal target
but they face potential competition from Liverpool for the Welsh centre half.
