The 34-year-old's contract was due to expire this summer, but he has now signed a new deal that will keep him at Old Trafford for the next 12 months
Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has signed a new one-year contract at the club.

The 34-year-old's deal was set to expire in the summer, but he has now agreed to extend his stay at the club by another 12 months.

"Sooooo happy to sign a 1yr extension for this great club, living the dream. Roll on next season #mufc," he announced on Twitter.

Goal.com exclusively revealed back in October that United were preparing to offer the former England international a one-year deal on reduced wages, and that now seems to have come to pass.

The likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville have all accepted pay cuts in the twilight of their careers, and Ferdinand has now joined them in adhering to this club policy. ------------------- goal.com
