There was no controversy on choosing a player that had a standout performance this last weekend - it had to be Sibi Gwar of Enyimba. Gwar scored a hat trick in the in the 31st, 39th and 68th minutes to help his side to all three points.

And what made his performance very commendable is the fact that he scored the three goals against the defending league champions, Kano Pillars.

Gwar has been on the periphery of the Super Eagles and after his transfer from Niger Tornadoes, league watchers expected the 16-goal hero from last season to be bulging the net for fun but the dimunitive striker took his time settling down in Aba.

Now the Aba Elephants will believe that with Gwar getting the goals, they will be able to once again challenge for the league title.
Congratulations to Sibi Gwar, Goal.com's Nigeria Player of the Week winner!

The Shortlist
Ahmed Musa - CSKA Moscow

Musa scored in the semi-final of the Russian Cup and scored again at the weekend to help his side solidify their position atop the league table, five points ahead of Zenit.
Musa has scored 11 goals in the league and the winger turned striker has helped fill the void of injured Seydou Doumbia, who was out injured for over five months.
Lukman Haruna - Dynamo Kiev
The U-17 World Cup winner is in the goals and they are becoming very vital as Dynamo Kiev seek a route back into the Champions League.

Another goal last weekend against Illitchivets helped his side to a slim 1-0 victory, which gives them an outside chance to overhaul Metalist who currently occupy the second spot
John Utaka - Montpellier

After returning to league action against Valenciennes last week, the Super Eagles winger got on the score sheet against Brest last weekend though his side lost.
It may however be too late for the defending champions to get a berth in the Europa League but the Nigerian has been a leading light for his club.
Laide Okanlawon - 3SC
The Ibadan club had lost all five matches on the road in the new Nigeria Professional Football League season.

But the rasta-haired goal tender pulled off save after save to help 3SC record their first away point of the season against Sharks in Port Harcourt last weekend.
