Valdes victors? Anzhi poised to blow Arsenal away with £160k a week offer to keeper
Barcelona are set to sell the Spain international this
summer after he said he wouldn't sign new deal - and price looks too
high for Gunners
Arsene Wenger is facing a major tug-of-war over Victor Valdes - after
big spending Anzhi Makhachkala offered to make him the highest-paid
goalkeeper in the world.
Valdes, 31, is on Arsenal’s hit-list of summer targets after the Spain international insisted he will not sign a new contract at Barcelona.
But that has also alerted Russian club Anzhi, who are offering him a staggering £160,000-a-week three-season deal - more than Valdes could dream of getting at the Gunners.
Barcelona are also demanding a £12million transfer fee.
Arsenal want a new experienced No1, which is bad news for Wojciech Szczesny.
Manager Wenger has serious money to spend and wants a keeper, a centre-half, a central midfielder and a striker.
As well as Valdes, Stoke’s Asmir Begovic, Pepe Reina of Liverpool and Hamburg's Germany international Rene Adler are also in the frame to join the Gunners. They have looked at Swansea’s Michel Vorm in the past.
Manchester United also fancy Begovic, which raises question marks about their current first-choice David De Gea, who is being eyed by Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Barca had looked at Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer and Reina to replace Valdes, but now De Gea, Chelsea’s emerging Thibaut Courtois and Valencia’s Vicente Guaita seem more likely options.
But it would appear - with Reina potentially on the move and Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers a big fan of Vorm after their days together at Swansea - there could be a big transfer shake-up involving keepers this summer. ---------------- Mirror Football
