Yet in a quiet kickabout with youngsters on his tour around China, David Beckham showed that even the best are prone to the odd slip and tumble.
The new World Ambassador for Chinese Football attempted to show the watching crowd his skills with a trademark free-kick, but ended up falling onto his back to the amusement of those around him.

The 37-year-old lost his footing on the slippery surface at a
sports field during his visit in Wuhan, Hubei province, but managed to
smile it off after dusting himself down. But the former England captain - suited and booted at the time - might want to consider his choice of footwear before attempting any more exhibition football.
Speaking earlier this week about his visit, aimed at raising the profile of football, Beckham said: "This is a significant year in Chinese football history as we usher in 20 years of developing this sport professionally and mark the 10-year milestone of the Chinese Super League - which today reaches 300 million television viewers and 4.49 million spectators annually."
With the four-day trip the China coming towards an end, his new club Paris Saint-Germain might want to take their latest big recruit Beck to basics before the season's end.
And as a reminder, here's Goldenballs himself doing it correctly.
