Redknapp 'doesn't like South Americans' - Gomes tells Julio Cesar to leave QPR

The Tottenham goalkeeper has advised the Brazil No.1 to leave the Championship club or run the risk of missing out on a starting place at the 2014 World Cup
Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has told Julio Cesar to leave QPR because Harry Redknapp is unlikely to restore him to the starting XI.

The Brazil No.1 was largely expected to leave the club following their relegation to the Championship, but no move was forthcoming in the summer.

The 34-year-old is yet to feature for QPR this season and Gomes - who is stuck on the periphery at Tottenham - has advised his compatriot to leave in January because Redknapp "doesn't like South Americans much."

"Julio has to work with someone [Redknapp] who is almost impossible to have his mind changed," he told Radio ESPN in Brazil. "I worked with him at Tottenham, and I had my share of difficulties too.

"He doesn't like South Americans much, Brazilians mainly. He doesn't care if you're on Selecao's first eleven or not.

"Julio will keep having problems if he continues at QPR. If he gets any chance to leave, he should do so, in order to get playing time."

Gomes believes Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari will back Julio Cesar, but also warned the former Inter man to look for a starting spot at a club in order to be fully fit for the tournament on home soil.

He added: "Coaches have goalkeepers as a high confidence spot, and Scolari thinks Julio Cesar has what it takes to go to the World Cup. But one should be playing at least from January onwards to get in good shape for the cup." ------------------- goal.com
