Shittu Confident of Millwall Survival

Shittu Confident of Millwall Survival

Danny Shittu admits Millwall will be keeping track of results elsewhere when they face Derby County on the final day of the season – but insists they are confident of survival.

After earning a hard-fought point in Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw against south London rivals Crystal Palace, the Lions sit two points clear of the Championship drop zone.

Below them are Sheffield Wednesday, Peterborough Town and Barnsley, and if results go their way and Millwall fail to beat Derby, the Lions could slide through the trap door.

Captain Shittu knows Millwall are in for a tense finale and admits they will be checking other scores when they go into the dressing room at half time against Derby.

“We would be lying if we said we won’t be checking the scores,” said Shittu, who was presented with Millwall’s Player of the Year award ahead of the Palace game.

“But at the end of the day we need to concentrate on our game.

“We know that we’re in a good position. It’s down to what we do.

“They will be looking more at us than us at them. We just need to go out there and put in a good performance.”

Shittu was pleased with the Lions’ draw with Palace and said the clean sheet has filled them with confidence after a run of three consecutive defeats.

“We had to come here and defend well,” he said. “We’re happy with the way we defended.

“We would have liked to have got the three points but we got one and we’re still in a good position.

“We take a lot of belief and confidence from today because we played really well.

“We battled against them well, they’ve got a lot of good players in their team.

“It’s a game that we couldn’t afford to lose so we’re happy. And I’m happy with the way I performed.

He added: “Today’s given us a good team spirit and we’re feeling confident for the weekend now.

“We’re happy, we’re confident. The feeling in the changing room is good. It’s what you need, going into such a big game.

“All the lads are smiling and happy and the gaffer is happy with us.” ------------------- Complete Sports
