Split decision: Real Madrid have backed their players over unpopular Mourinho

Jose Mourinho will arrive at Chelsea with his Special One reputation damaged by Real Madrid’s player-power revolt.
Mourinho is being allowed to leave Real after president Florentino Perez waived his £12m release clause - as we exclusively revealed at the start of the month.
That
move came after a delegation of Real players - led by keeper Iker
Casillas and defender Sergio Ramos - had a secret dinner with Perez and
revealed the depth of the dressing room split over Mourinho.
Bernabeu
legend Casillas was even ready to quit the club and it came down to a
“him or me” situation which appalled Mourinho and eventually played a
major part in forcing him out.
Angel Di Maria, Karim Benzema,
Pepe, Mesut Ozil, Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Callejon were all against
Mourinho, who bought Diego Lopez to replace Casillas in goal after
branding the fan favourite unprofessional.
Mourinho also got upset
with star man Cristiano Ronaldo for failing to back him in the dressing
room, although it is believed they have now made peace.
There
were only a few players on Mourinho’s side - including Michael Essien,
who played for him at Chelsea and was on loan at Real from the Blues,
Xabi Alonso, Fabio Coentrao and Lopez - leaving his power base
completely undermined. Sub standard: Mourinho banished Spain captain Casillas to the bench

Mourinho won the La Liga title last year, but this season his
time simply ran out and it is telling that Real were willing to waive
the compensation package and that the Portuguese kissed goodbye to a
pay-off.
It leaves the 50-year-old determined to rebuild his reputation at Chelsea.
He will arrive as a wounded animal, resolved to prove Real wrong.
Mourinho
is relying on his agent, Jorge Mendes, to try to swing the £50m deal
for in-demand Radamel Falcao, who is set to leave Atletico Madrid this
summer.
Monaco and Manchester City are also keen on the Colombia international.
Mourinho
is willing to allow Fernando Torres to go back to Atletico, the club he
left to join Liverpool in 2007, as part of a player-plus-cash deal for
Falcao.
Mourinho has already - as we first revealed - won the battle to keep Frank Lampard, and John Terry also wants to stay on.
The
Portuguese will be afforded further cash to reinforce his squad, with
Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini also on his wish-list.
