MOSES SCORES 10TH GOAL OF THE SEASON

MOSES SCORES 10TH GOAL OF THE SEASON

Nigerian winger Victor Moses scored his fourth goal of the season in the UEFA Europa League for Chelsea as they cruised into the finals of the competition with a 3-1 (5-2 on aggregate) win over Swiss side Basle in Thursday night's second leg of semi-final clash at Stamford Bridge, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

It was also  the 10th goal of the season in all competitions for the former Wigan Athletic player who scored in both legs of the quarter-final clash against Russian side, Rubin Kazan, and repeated the same feat against the visitors from Switzerland.

Another Nigerian, John Mikel Obi, was not listed for the second leg encounter with Basle.

With this feat, Chelsea now have a chance of joining the elite band of clubs who have won a  treble, if they win the Europa League in the final that will hold in Amsterdam later this month.

The other two trophies  already in the bag of the Blues  are the UEFA Champions League and the (now defunct) Cup-Winners' Cup.

Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Ajax and Juventus are the only other sides who have managed to secure all three (also winning the Fairs Cup UEFA Cup, the forerunners of the Europa League).

Chelsea must beat Benfica in Amsterdam to join these elite clubs.

Both teams have met once before in last year's Champions League quarter-final with the Blues winning both legs (1-0 in Lisbon and 2-1 at Stamford Bridge) before going on to win Europe's premier competition.

At the Estadio Da Luz stadium, Super Eagles defender Joseph Yobo played for 75 minutes for Fenerbahce as they  lost 3-1( 3-2 on aggregate) to Portuguese side Benfica in the second leg   of the second  semi-final of this year’s Europa League.

Yobo who has played 13 times in the competition was replaced by Miroslav Stoch. ----------------- Complete Sports
