The Super Eagles defender has revealed that Bafana Bafana are the only threat to the Super Eagles CHAN title winning ambitionNigeria defender Solomon Kwambe has stated that the Super Eagles have what it takes to soar high when the African Nations Championships gets underway in South Africa.
Hoever, he claimed that the hosts will be the only major obstacle to their aspiration of lifting the trophy in their debut outing.
“The only team that could pose a likely threat to our title ambition is South Africa because they parade most of their national team players and are very compact because they play together week in, week out,” he told Goal.
“They have quality players and will not be lacking in terms of home support as hosts and the atmosphere will be in their favour. Even at this, we will give them a fight for their money because their intention will be to break their jinx against the Super Eagles.”
The Sunshine Stars player also said the absence of key men like Sunday Mba, Yinka Adedeji and a host of others will have no negative impact on the team’s performance.
“We are not going there to make up the numbers but we are going to compete for the trophy.
“Their absence won’t affect our performance because we have other great players in the team. In fact I must say it is a big blessing because it created an avenue for the big boss [Stephen Keshi] to recognize other players who are good for the team.
“Sincerely, the players picked are equally good ones and are ready to make the nation proud. Being picked to represent the country in the first CHAN outing is a big motivation to us,” Kwambe concluded.
Nigeria will kick off their campaign in Group A on January 11 in Cape Town before facing Mozambique and South Africa. ---------------------- goal.com
