Moyes blasts 'scandalous' penalty decision after Manchester United's defeat to Tottenham

The Scot believes his side should have been awarded a "stonewall penalty" after Hugo Lloris collided with Ashley Young inside Spurs' box without touching the ball
David Moyes labelled Howard Webb’s decision not to award a penalty for Hugo Lloris’ challenge on Ashley Young as ‘one of the worst he’s seen’ following Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham.

A goal in each half from Emmanuel Adebayor and Christian Eriksen secured victory for Tim Sherwood’s side, who were forced to hold out in the final stages of the game after Danny Welbeck’s strike in the 67th minute.

Moyes maintains the collision between Lloris and Young inside Tottenham’s box was a “stonewall penalty”, while the result leaves United seventh in the Premier League, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal.

“I thought the team played really well. We certainly should have had a penalty and red card for the goalkeeper’s challenge on Ashley Young,” Moyes said.

“It’s scandalous. If you follow through with your foot that high anywhere else on the pitch, it’s a sending off and a red card. It’s an incredible decision, in fact it’s probably one of the worst I’ve seen.

“It’s reckless, it’s late, it’s in the penalty box. I don’t know what else we can say.

“All I can tell you is that was a stonewall penalty. If you don’t give a penalty for that, you won’t see one all season.” ---------------- goal.com
