FIFA Dismisses Malawi Petition Against Calabar Venue
: Aug 19, 2013
World football governing body FIFA, has dismissed the petition by Football Association of Malawi to move their crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles from Calabar to a ‘safe’ venue, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
According to Supersport, FAM chief executive officer, Suzgo Nyirenda, has confirmed that The Flames have no other option but to travel to Calabar for the much anticipated World Cup qualifying cracker.
"It is not like we said we do not want to travel to Nigeria. We are just waiting for the Nigeria Football Federation to provide us the guarantee. Once they do that, we will travel to Nigeria" he was quote by The Nation in Malawi.
It would be recalled that Malawi coach, Belgian-born Tom Saintfiet had questioned the U.J. Esuene Stadium, citing insecurity.
The Eagles need a win or a draw to progress to the final phase of the qualifier, while the Flames must secure all three points to make it into the next round. -------------------------- complete sports
