Sambawa Urges Yobo to Quit Now

Former Minister of Sports, Alhaji Samaila Sambawa has urged Joseph Yobo to quit the stage as Super Eagles captain now that the ovation is loudest.

According to Sambawa, Yobo has served Nigeria very well having won the Africa Cup of Nations after six attempts and nothing will be more befitting for him now than to throw in the towel.

“If I were him, I would call a press conference and announce my retirement from international football instead of being benched in a team that he used to captain. Yobo has played his part and should leave the stage for younger players to rise”, says the former Sports Minister

“Yobo should celebrate his retirement from the Super Eagles now before his case becomes like that of Kanu Nwankwo who retired without fanfare after being on the bench in the last few months preceding the end of his playing career,” he stated.

The ex-minister said the NFF would do well to organise a benefiting testimonial match for Kanu as a mark of honor for the most decorated Nigerian player.

It would be recalled that the former Arsenal forward retired after the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. ------------------------ complete sports
