Gareth Bale tells Tottenham he wants a transfer.. but doesn't want to ask for one
Deal looks near as star admits to boss AVB he wants out - and Levy contacts Real Madrid for a list of part-exchange candidates
Adios: Bale gave boss Villas-Boas the bad news at training on Wednesday
Ian Walton
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is ready to admit defeat over Gareth
Bale after the star told manager Andre Villas-Boas he wants to leave. Welsh ace Bale
returned to training on Wednesday, and explained to Villas-Boas he
wants the chance to play for Real Madrid - but is reluctant to hand in a
transfer request.
And with a world-record deal on the cards,
Spurs have now sounded out Real about providing a potential list of
players they would make available to the Londoners in a part-exchange
deal.
The fact that the White Hart Lane club are now interested in a deal is the first sign that they are ready to crack after so far resisting Real’s overtures.
Chairman Daniel Levy will insist on a deal worth more than £90m - whether that is a straight-cash fee or players plus money.
Tottenham
could be interested in Angel Di Maria, Fabio Coentrao, ex-Spurs
midfielder Luka Modric and 20-year-old striker Alvaro Morata (see video
below), but also want to see if any other players could be thrown in.
Morata was one of the stars of this summer's European U21 Championship with winners Spain.
He
has made 18 first-team appearances for Real already, and had been
mentioned as a potentially makeweight in a deal for Liverpool's Luis
Suarez.
Levy is understood to be interested in Coentrao, who was a target anyway as Spurs look for a new left-back.
Argentina
winger Di Maria is another possible, but it is believed that Modric is
not keen on a return to White Hart Lane despite Levy being keen on him.
The
Croatian is aware that Manchester United could also be interested in
him as they struggle to buy Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
"It
is difficult to talk about Bale, because he is not a Real Madrid
player," Real's new coach Carlo Ancelotti told a press conference at
their pre-season training camp in California.
"I believe the club
is in talks to find a solution and we will see what happens. I am not
used to talking about players who are not in my team and it would not be
right to do so."
* REPORTS in Spain late on Wednesday claimed Valencia striker Roberto Soldado's £26m move to Spurs will be official within 24 hours.
