Monaco CEO Vadim Vasilyev has admitted that the Ligue 2 champions see Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye as an interesting option as they are looking to strenghten their midfield ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.

The 27-year-old recently revealed his interest in a move to Manchester United, hinting that he is looking for an exit from Tyneside, and Monaco are ready to join the race for the France international's signature.

"Yohan Cabaye? He is an exciting player," Vasilyev admitted to L’Equipe when questioned about a potential move for the midfielder.

Cabaye has established himself as a key player in Alan Pardew’s Newcastle side since joining the club from Lille in the summer of 2011, but a move to Monaco could prove to be too tempting to turn down for the midfielder, who has a contract with his current club until 2016.

Meanwhile, Eric Abidal, who has been released by Barcelona, has also been touted as a target for Les Rouge et Blanc, and Vasilyev appears to be keen on the left-back, too.

"Abidal is a strong player. If he could come back to Le Championnat everyone would be delighted."

Monaco have already spent big this summer, snatching striker Radamel Falcao ahead of many top European clubs, while also securing the services of high-profile players such as James Rodriguez, Joao Moutinho and Ricardo Carvalho. ----------------------- goal.com
